Cooking vs. Baking

Cooking and baking are similar but they are also different.

When you cook, you would usually make savory things like spicy chicken or some nice crispy fried chicken, but did you know you can cook sweet things too? When you cook, it would be on the stove and you could make candy, some types of ice cream, pancakes, waffles, or jam from berries.

Cooking sometimes uses a stove or grill and a lot of times you cook meat. When you have to substitute something while cooking it will only affect the texture or taste, but when you substitute something while baking you might have to change other things because it changes the reaction and way it bakes.

Usually when you cook you don’t need a recipe, but when you bake you need a recipe. You can cook or bake food and it will turn out differently  (pasta, and chicken etc). If you accidentally add too much of one ingredient you may have to add more of a few others or it might not taste or bake correctly, for example if you add to much water to a batter it wont bake correctly and if you add too much flour to bread dough it would be way too stiff and hard to handle.

Hi! I’m Sophia, co-founder and future owner of Everyday Baking with Kids. For as long as I can remember, I have always loved to bake. I think when I get a bit older, I will become a pastry chef and open up my own restaurant. For now, I enjoy trying new cooking and baking classes and making everything from scratch.
